I'm Henry Etzkowitz, a Strong Voice for Seniors and Renters!
Source: 10/23/2024, Daily Post
A Community Organizer with 60’s experience, I was called back into service to lead the pushback against Stanford’s 2022 attempt at “Senior Removal” from Oak Creek Apartments. Seniors, Stanford students, faculty and post-docs, together, formed a neighborhood association, Community of Oak Creek Residents (COCR) to save our inter-generational community.
Experience
Retired professor, Innovation and Sustainability Scholar, California Photovoltaics entrepreneur. Faculty Fellow, Clayman Institute for Gender Research 2009-10. CEO International Triple Helix Institute (www.triplehelix.net) A Reform Democrat, I fought against Tammany Hall and we won. I knocked on doors for Gene McCarthy in Indiana, served as Bella Abzug's Arts Advisor in her NYC mayoralty campaign. And I like seniors/renters friendly environments.
Security Issues
Community policing should be enhanced with as many officers as possible leaving vehicles to patrol a beat on foot, bicycle or horseback. Introduce administrative cost sharing with neighbor cities so that more officers can be on patrol, getting to know people and enhancing their sense of security by their presence. New stylish uniforms, informal yet elegant with distinctive hats should be worn. A friendly wave and smile should replace a withdrawn presence behind vehicle screens.
Community Activities
Increase opportunities for youth and seniors alike to leave home and screens for interactive activities, social and physical. More community square dances. Ping Pong and billiards Halls, Kareoke Bars. Bring back a Bowling Alley. Rezone and use or lose empty storefronts.
